What is STG?
Student Led Tutorial Group (STG) is a peer tutoring initiative by the Computer Engineering Club (CEC) supported by the School of Computer Engineering (SCE).
STG aims at helping students who are weak in some particular subjects by their peers who have achieved good result for the corresponding subjects via some tutorial sessions.
Hence, if you feel you are not strong enough or need some more practices in some particular subjects, feel free to register for STG as a tutee. On the other side, if you have achieved good result in some particular subjects, you are invited to come forward as a tutor for STG.
Why should you join tutor?
Of course it would help you with questions you have on the subjects. But more than that, the intellectual stimulation and discussions will help you to think in many different ways and see solutions from different perspectives.
All this will not only deepen your appreciation on the subject, but help you to be more creative in your future approach.
Why should you become tutor?
There is some truth in the saying that when you are able to explain something that complex in simple and understandable terms, it demonstrates true understanding on your part. As a tutor, you will improve even more on your knowledge of the subject.
Now only one question remains, who is qualified to become a tutor? It’s simple; if you have achieved at least an A in the subject OR you have achieved at least an A- in the subject and you are currently on the Dean’s List then you are eligible to become a tutor of the corresponding subject.
Do note that we salute your commitment towards the SCE population and hence all the tutors are paid under WSS (Work Study Scheme), 15 SGD per hour or 180 SGD for the whole schedule per subject.
What are the subjects?
This will really depend on the number of tutors recruited and the number of tutees interested. A tutor will be assigned a minimum of 5 tutees and a maximum of 10 tutees. If the registrations received do not meet stated constrains, the corresponding subject may not be held (that is why you should register as soon as possible).
What will the schedule be like?
The tutorial groups will spread from the 8th to 11th academic week (Oct. 5-30, 2009); two sessions a week per subject. The two sessions will be carried out on two different days and each should only be an hour and half (by default 7.00 PM – 8.30 PM).
Where will the tutorials be held?
We will have the tutorial in tutorial room near N4 block (TR1 – TR28), just like the official tutorial held by professors.
When and where to register?
You have to do the online registration on our website: Tutor Form and/or Tutee Form. The registration system will be available from Friday, September 18, 2009, 09.00 AM until Monday, September 29, 2009, 12.00 PM.
